Back To What??

Back To What??

If you're of a certain age, you'll remember Soul II Soul's hit "Back to Life" which was quite popular in its day.  This time every year reminds me of that song.  Summer is beginning to wind down, and the "fun in the sun," carefree days seem to be all-to-rapidly replaced with schedules and routines.

As with most moments in our lives, back-to-school time can be bittersweet.  Teachers of all stripes-I see you, homeschool moms-are gearing up for the year, decorating, organizing and lesson planning their hearts out.  Moms are shopping for all things school; supplies, clothes, shoes, backpacks, lunches, etc.  Parents are figuring out how to have multiple kids in various places at the same time (why do all the practices and your meeting always collide??).

Can we have fun with all this?  Of course we can!!  Look what Ms. Liana of Lee's Bakery:  My Gifts His Glory made:

school bus apple open book coffee to go decorated cookies and cutters

I love her attention to detail.  Look at that bus with all the lights, the designs on the to-go coffee cup and the bows on that bookworm!!!

Are you like me and have a little trepidation about creating something with that level of artistry?  Here's a tutorial of a cool apple design any of us could do.

If your children are like mine, you can lure them in the kitchen with icing and sprinkles to decorate (on the younger side) or bribe them into having a conversation about their day over a specially baked and decorated cookie (teenagers don't usually turn down tasty treats).  Either way, you'll spend time with them, laughing, talking, learning, growing, and that's the best part of parenting no matter the time of year.
