What's Yours?

What's Yours?

While we have the big C in December rattling around in the back of our minds, most of us are enjoying the cooler days and opportunities for family time fall brings.  Big surprise, amongst the apple picking, pumpkin patch-ing and leaf raking (or blowing), one of our favorite fall activities is making cookies!

We found another very informative tutorial video from Little Cookie Company that takes you on a fall cookie decorating journey.  From the beginning, where she shows you how to test your icing to great advice about corners, flooding, using a scribe, preventing craters, decorating sections and drying to consistencies and techniques, she covers multiple topics for new cookiers or refreshers for professionals.

For example, at 5:50, she talks about working on sections.  She explains how she works on isolated sections and skips ones that are adjacent to each other.  She lets those sections dry, then comes back to fill in the ones between to achieve a separated effect.  This technique is great for pumpkins as well as other fall shapes.

Kaitlin @thegoodiesgoddess demonstrates a wet-on-wet decorating technique in which the pattern "melts" into the design for a flatter effect.  She uses it for a giraffe-inspired cookie, but this technique would work well for leaves and turkeys, too.

In order to create all those amazing designs, both artists used several tools as well as the tips and tricks they showed us.  Decorating bags, tips, and scribes were utilized as well as cookie cutters.  We love helping you with their advice, but we also want to do more to boost your skills and confidence.  That's why this month, we're giving away a basket filled with that gear mentioned above and more!

Included in the basket are a 100 piece set of icing bags and tips, cowboy boot and hat cookie cutters with stencils to match, two depths of stencil holders with six clips, a 7 inch cookie turntable with nonslip mat and a handcrafted blingy scribe made by Liana (pumpkins too if you wish :)).

How do I enter, you ask?  Good question!  Entering is super simple; just answer the following question in the comment section at the bottom of the page:  What is your favorite fall shape? One person will receive the prize. You can enter once. Please review all Terms and Conditions of the giveaway page before entering. While we wish we could run this contest everywhere, for legal reasons it is only open to over 18 residents of the U.S. not including Rhode Island.  We look forward to reading your suggestions!

Cookiers of all stripes are a wonderfully creative bunch.  We love hearing from you and seeing your artwork on these edible canavases!  Check out our new page here to see how we can work together.  We are super excited to come alongside you to promote your talent!
